General description of the
hospital
The
building of the New Kasr El Aini Teaching Hospital
consists of 12 floors distributed as follows:
Basement:
it consists of boilers,
main
kitchen, central sterilization, laundry, main
pharmacy, maintenance workshop, medical engineering
department, main warehouses, and the morgue.
Ground
floor:
This floor includes
an casualty department, diagnostic radiology unit,
operation theaters, recovery unit, postoperative
intensive care unit, endoscopy unit, blood bank, main entrance, guest hall,
management offices, and the mosque.
First floor:
This
floor includes the central labs, physiotherapy and rehabilitation
department, amphitheaters and lecture rooms, outpatient
clinic's entrance, cafeteria and the
administration.
Second
floor:
This floor
consists
of wards for inpatients, ICU, intermediate care unit,
cardiac catheter unit.
From
third to seventh floor:
dedicated to
inpatients. Each
floor includes 4 wards; each has 40 beds in addition
to the central services like: guest and patient
resting halls.
Each ward has its special educational unit.
Eight
and ninth floor:
These
floors represent
a separate part with its services that has kitchen, laundry, pharmacy, 2 operation rooms,
sterilization unit, Diagnostic Radiology Unit, Outpatient clinics, and administration offices. Each
floor consists of 4 wards each has 26 beds distributed
in rooms with 1 or 2 beds, each has its private
bath room in addition to other central services.
Tenth
floor:
It
has electrical switch boards that feeds the eight and
the ninth floor in addition to
elevators' machine rooms, and central air conditioning
units.

Pharmacy:
The
pharmacy has the ability to prepare some medicines in
the hospital; from syrups, ointment, suppositories and
others. The pharmacy can also perform pharmaceutical
monitory tests on the raw material imported to the
pharmacy and the medicines that are manufactured in
the hospital.
The pharmacy distributes
medications with divided dosing system, and mixes IV
solutions for each patient according to his case.
The
Pharmacy has a system to monitor drug pharmacokinetics
and bioavailability
especially for
liver and kidney failure patient.
The
pharmacy
is supported with a center for pharmaceutical
information in terms of doses, toxicity, side effects
and drug interactions.

Kitchen and the cafeteria:
The
nutrition section consists of:
- The main kitchen that contains a unit for
preparing the patients meals.
- The sub kitchen that serves the private
hospital.
- The main cafeteria that can handle 460 persons
in the first floor, while the other cafeteria in the
ninth floor can handle 40 persons and it is mainly for
servicing doctors and hospital employees.
- The kitchen that consists of the most advanced
preparing equipments that provide the most attractive
methods of food preparation.
