Blood Transfusion Center

Introduction:

Welcome to our transfusion center site.

            We started in April, 1996.

Our center was planned to be blood bank serving the New Kasr El-Aini Teaching
Hospital, but we raised it to be a transfusion center.

It was working only for 6 hours from 8:00 – 2:00 PM.

Within few months we raised our efforts to cover the 24 hours.

Our blood transfusion center serves not only our hospital, but also surrounding when
            it is possible (available)

Our staff:

  •    Physicians.

  •    Chemists.

  •    Technicians.

  •    Nurses.

  •    Clerks.

Our services in numbers:

  •     No. of donors : 100 donors / week.

  •     No. of Patients (outpatients): 20 patients/week.

  •     No. of Platelets aphaeresis : 5/week.

  •     No. of Plasma aphaeresis: 6 – 10/month.

Why should I donate blood ?

  •    Because you could save someone’s life.

  •    The only source of blood is human being and no other sources available yet.

  •    Blood donation reduces risk of heart diseases in middle aged males (British
                   Medical Journal, 1997).

  •    You can get your own screening results including your blood groups.

Is it safe to donate blood?

  •   “YES” as donation can be used to help several patients as one blood bag is
                    separated into several components.

  •   These components are given to patients suffering from anemia and
coagulation defects, to accident victims, to those undergoing surgery,
                    …etc…..

  •   The need of blood always exceeds the available supply, so you can be sure
that it will not be wasted.

How long does it take to donate ?

The actual donation will take 8 – 10 minutes, but you should allow 30 – 40 minutes for the entire visit.

How often may I donate ?

You may donate blood every 12 weeks. Immediately after you donate, your body starts to replace the blood you have given.
