“And say to them: Act for God will behold your actions and so will His messenger and the believers” (9:105)

Foreword

Over the past four years, Outpatient Clinics has taken great steps a head, starting with 6 outpatient clinics and ending with 45 clinics in almost every specialty in a marvelously short time. These clinics embrace the best of Egypt’s medicine professors.

No doubt that great efforts and perseverance were –after God’s bless- behind such remarkable success.

The spirit of continuous development and unceasing efforts will never die, so long as God blesses this achievement and the workers in it are up to their responsibility.

God grant us success,

Prof. Fouad El Nawawy.
(1995-2000)

Introduction

Outpatient clinics were in operation since 29/6/1996.

At that time there were six clinics which are:

1-     Internal Medicine Clinic

2-     Surgery Clinic

3-     Urology Clinic

4-     Neurology Clinic

5-     Cardiology Clinic

6-     Otolaryngology Clinic

A patient was able to visit the doctor for 20 pounds only, keeping the right to revisit the attending doctor once for free within a week after the first check. This was because the hospital was keen on implementing the policy of “Excellent treatment …Economical Fees” under the supervision of an elite of medicine professors in the Cairo University.

Today:

-   Outpatients clinics increased to 45.

-   Clinics periods are 563 weeks, averaging 2256 week per month.

-   460 professors and teachers in the Faculty of Medicine are working in these clinics.

-   Clinics work daily from 9:00 am and finish at 10:00 pm

-  Schedules are drawn on large wood boards in the clinics reception halls. Every board contains the schedule of clinics for every floor with professors’ names listed in every schedule. Names can be modified according to the changes made to the schedule whether this change was a deletion, an addition, or a replacement. The patient, thus, will be able to know the dates, tables, and participating doctors of every clinic in every specialty.

· Morning contact system is performed by clinic secretary team with teaching staff members according to the daily-predefined schedule to make sure they will come in time. Patients thus can reserve an appointment in ease and comfort. The objective is to implement a respectable system that matches the hospital fame and popularity.

· Duration of the clinics operation was increased from one hour and a half to a couple of hours. Clinics periods have been extended in certain specialties where a lot of patients visit these clinics.

·
Patient waiting halls were increased to contain the huge number of patients and make their treatment a comfortable experience. Patient reception halls are distributed thus: two waiting halls on the Clinics Reception floor, and two on the third floor. University and clinics employees are dedicated two halls on the eighth floor and two on the ninth. Treatment of employees of Cairo University and other associated universities was transferred to the hospital. A wide range of workers starting from academic staff, employees, labourmen, and other officials have been assigned seven clinics to check and get a high-level range of medical services. These clinics too comprise a team of the best academic staff in the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University.

    Medical Records

A special archive was designed for the medical records on the first floor beside the specialized clinics. Every patient has a medical profile stored for him and a card carrying the profile number for the follow-up purposes.

Number of profiles now turn to equal around 179000 profile.

All profiles were stored in manual books in the alphabetical order as registered and entered in the computer records. These profiles were indexed by the alphabetical order to guarantee no two profiles are duplicated for the same patient.

    Flyers

The following flyers were prepared:

Flyers for the different diet systems (e.g., diabetes diet system, colitis diet system, gout diet system, high fat rates, ulcer of the stomach, and so on) to be distributed to the frequent patients who visit the clinics in every specialty.

Flyers were made for different activities such as:

Ultrasound waves, heart image, brain image, urine brain speed measuring, prostate sonar and samples

Flyers for ophthalmology clinics such as (sight range, film fluorescence with laser powder, ultrasound waves)

   Educational Role of Clinics

A summer cycle was arranged for third year students in the Faculty of the Medicine, and at the same time members in the Scientific Student Society (SSS) for viewing and living in the outpatient clinics.

Six Year Students in the Faculty of Medicine are being trained to work in the clinics by their master professors. Thus, they gain the knowledge and acquire the experience from their academic professors about how to deal with patients plus the undoubtedly scientific experience.

The hospital is keen on exchanging international medical experiences in different specialties. It invites some of the world’s medical expert in the various specialties. Special clinics are prepared and equipped for them to examine patients.
